Travel and Transport
Heron Island is accessed by the Heron Islander catamaran, which departs Gladstone on July 9 at 9am. You must be pre-registered, which is automatic when paiing the catamaran fare, and check in with your baggage from 7:30 am on July 9.
Most people will need to arrive in Gladstone the day before and stay overnight. Numerous budget motels and hotels in Goondoon Street are recommended.
The catamaran departs the island just after lunch on July 15 and is expected back in Gladstone around 3pm, but beware that unforeseen weather may influence this. Flights out of Gladstone after or about 5pm should be feasible.
At present, all passengers wll have to make their own way to the airport by taxi - it is only about 20 min's drive. A bus may be organised closer to the date.
The Resort requires full names and ages and flight details of all passengers. This nformation has to be sent to wentrup@uq.edu.au as soon as available and no later than June 1, 2028.
Because you are traveling to a remote island in the Pacific Ocean, a good travel insurance is essential; especially one that covers unforeseen flight delays and health issues.
The island has a small medical centre, but for anything serious, the individual needs to be transported to the mainland by catamaran or helicopter.
Note: the catamaran does not operate Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Anybody wishing to travel to or from the island by helicopter should contact Curt Wentrup as soon as possible to get a quote.
